Throughout
the last few years, I have frequently been asked about
how I came up with the name "Lil' Diva" for
my company. Honestly, it wasn't the first one that came
to mind.
I
sat on the beach one day, with my writing pad and pen
in hand, and just started writing down anything that came
to mind. The name that just kept jumping out from all
the rest was "Lil' Diva." I thought it was perfect.
But
what exactly is a diva? According to Webster's
Dictionary, a diva is "1. A prima donna. 2.
A usually glamorous and successful female performer or
personality." However, I really feel this definition
is so "old-school" and needs to be updated to
reflect what today's diva is all about.
To
me, a diva is a woman who isn't afraid to voice her opinion,
to stand up for herself and her rights, as well as the
rights of others.
To
me, a diva is a woman who knows who she is and feels comfortable
in her own skin. She doesn't try to be something she's
not. She has a "what you see is what you get - and
if you don't like it, get the hell outta my way"
attitude.
To
me, a diva is a woman who embraces her talents, keeps
reaching for more out of life, and one who keeps learning
as much as she can. She doesn't take herself too seriously
and knows how to have fun in life. She knows life is too
short and precious to take for granted.
In
short, a diva is a strong and confident woman. It's what
every girl and woman strives to be, myself included.
After
thinking about all the things the word "diva"
meant to me, my company's tag line then popped into my
mind: "Inside every woman is a Lil' Diva." How
true.
I
believe every woman has an inner diva which is just dying
to come out. Don't be shy - embrace her. She will only
make you a stronger woman. It doesn't matter where you
came from, what you look like, how much money you make
- these things are unimportant and irrelevant in the big
scheme of things. Instead, it's about what you do with
your life and how you choose to embrace your inner diva.
So,
go ahead and embrace your inner Lil' Diva and be proud
of who you are and everything you have become and overcome!
Be proud to be a Lil' Diva!
And,
please feel free to contact the writers at Webster's Dictionary
and tell them that a third entry needs to be added to
their definition....
